I have had my D50 for about 7 months and I have started hearing a noise when the shutter actuates. It sounds a little like the bell or ringing sound of metal striking metal. It is not very loud but definitely there. To make sure I was not just imaging it I placed my ear next to the bottom of the camera and tripped the shutter and could definitely hear it.
So, is that something that is normal and other D50s do it or could it be a sign of problems to come. I would appreciate any help or advice you can give me.

i listened to the bottom of my D50 again just to check, and i heared it this time as well. its not really noticable, except when you place your ear at the bottom, then its pretty load.
it sounds just like you described it.

i'm guessing its standard for the D50, but i could be wrong

It's probably just mirror slaps. The D50's slaps is pretty loud. Try shooting with longer exposure (one or two seconds) to vary the slap between mirror up, and mirror down.

Thanks for the help and info. It is definitely the mirror slap making the noise. Knowing another D50 does the same thing makes me feel more comfortable that it is not a problem. Great camera BTW.
