I just recently started getting a [r09] error in the brackets that show the number of pictures left on the card. It only shows when I half press the shutter. This is not just an r09 that tells how many frames left in the buffer - nothing on the camera works. It won't take a picture, the flash won't pop up, I can't play back pictures.

I'm rather concerned. This happens with all of my lenses and I have not been able to find a solution on Google.

I suspect that the r09 has nothing to do with the problem, because I think I remember seeing it before.

Has anyone experienced this?

I think I may have found the problem. My battery might be dead.

What does the D50 do when the battery gets low? I'm at 1 flashing bar on the battery meter. I found out that if I remove the battery and reinsert it, I can sometimes get one shot off before it quits on me. I don't have my battery charger to verify...

Sounds like a flat battery. r09 is still the number of shots in the frame buffer though - it is not an error. The "error" warning is your flashing battery symbol. Don't expect a gradual warning of a depleting battery. All the Nikon SLRs I have ever had go from "full" to "empty" with little warning. The D50 is no exception. Top the charge up regularly.

Thanks! Lesson learned. I think I'm going to get a second battery now.

I've read soo many threads on this board about camera errors, and things just stopping working unless they power off and then back on, And 90% of the time its a third party battery that someone bought.

Therefore for the extra 20$ or so you might save, DON'T risk a third party battery! If one leaked or god forbid caught on fire, your risking like 700$ worth of equipment to save 20$.

consider it an insurance policy..
