Hi All

I'm using a D70s with 18-200mm Dx Vr lens.At around 18-20 mm there seems to be distortionespeciallywith objects on the sides of the frame which seem to appear to be bending slightly.Has anyone experienced similar?

I'm using a standard Kenko skylight filter - i'll remove this and try again in the meantime.

Ya its normal, the large convenience zooms often have some nasty distortion, But their convenience usually outweighs it.

the 18-55 kit lens has some nasty distortion aswell at 18mm

It is quite normal and can be (partially?) corrected. I use ptlens to correct it (it is cheap and very usefull), see "epaperpress.com/ptlens".
I am not affiliated with it, just a happy user.

Thanks Njangka

I have downloaded a trial of PTlensand seems to work quite well.Last night I managed to locate a fisheye/pincushion/barrel distortion corrector feature in ACDsee Pro which has a slightly easier interface - thanks again

You might also like a trial of DxO Optics.

It automatically does all the lens corrections and will "tune" your photos.

Quite impressive.

Ken Rockewell has a pretty decent review and some sample pics on his site:

KenRockwell.com

You can find a trial download here:

DxO Optics Pro

Doesn't Photoshop fix some lens distortion?

Photoshop and a lot of other software will fix barrel or pincushion distortion.
