Is all the function of SB-800 can be use ?

Which one will be better with D40: SB-400, SB-600, SB-800 ?

The SB800 will function on the D-40, and all features are supported. Unless you plan on adding a SB-600 later to use off camera (the SB-800 can control other SB600 or 800's off camera in TTL) or need the slight boost in power, save your money and buy a SB600. It does 90% of what the SB800 does at nearly 1/2 the price.
