Hi everyone, newbie here just updated from an old Canon AE1 (which I loved to bits - literally)to a new Nikon DSLR80. I like it but I'm still very much a novice with it. One of the first things I noticed is that the body is made in Thailand. I've also learned that some bodies are made in Japan. Is anybody able to shed some light on this. A Nikon D80 is a Nikon D80, right??? I hopeI haven't been had.

Your advice would be sincerely appreciated

A D80 is a D80. Nikon has several manufacturing locations, and I've never heard about one being less reliable than the others.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your reply. I'm learning but even at my level of experience I can appreciate what this camera is capable of. I'm impressed and impatient to learn.

My regards & compliments.

Roo.

My D50 was built in Thailand as well.

Lately, I have been wondering about the recent Thai government coup and New Year,s eve bombings and was wondering if that would impact Nikon's abilities to manufacture cameras/lenses/etc in that country...

Anyone have any input on that ?

I don't think the recent coup will affect anything. Bloodless coup is not uncommon in Thailand and I think the people who over threw the former government still respect the king and the new cabinet was sworn-in by the king.
