After many hours reading the manual and experimenting, I think I'm (finally!) getting the upper hand of my D70. Here's the master photo page, showing the evolution of it...

The newest shots are at the bottom of the page; I'm playing around with available light, too.

Here are the expanded pages of the portrait and my friend's band (where I got a little artsy-fartsy8))...

I'm using two of (probably) the cheapest lens Nikon has, the 28-105 and 70-300, both of which are going on eBay @ three for a sawbuck -- but still getting good results. I'm looking into getting the Sigma 17-70 2.8 pretty soon because I need a fast lens and this has gotten some good reviews. (And it can be had for lots less than a comparable Nikkor.) Anybody got any suggestions for a longer zoom to complement it?

With a fine camera like the D-70 you and it deserve the Nikon 18-200mm VR and live happily ever after. It's only money!

Great idea! I'm all for it, but unfortunately I just spent over $650 to fix my van a couple of days ago, and right now I'm saving up to buy some studio strobes. But I'll tell my wife you said I should get this lens...
