Hi,

I have two offers for cameras right now-

1. D70 (2 yrs old) with kit lens, 70-300 G lens and 1 gb CF card for around 1000 SGD (~650 USD). This one had the BGLOD and the owner got it repaired. Shutter count < 8k (claimed)
2. D70s kit (1 year +) with kit lens and 1 gb CF card for around 1000 SGD (~650 USD). Shutter count = 18068 (checked by exif viewer).

Which do you think is more worth buying?

cheers,

Maddy

I don't think the shutter actuations are really an issue and with that being the only difference... buy the D70s. If for nothing else, it has the bigger screen. The price is good too.

What about the extra lens? But I'm also worried about the BGLOD issue on the D70... Thanks for the advice though.

I thought they both came with an 18-70 as a kit lens, what did it come with as a kit lens?

Ok, I didn't read your post close enough... now I'm leaning the other way. Sorry.

Yes they both come with a kit lens (18-70) but the D70 also has a 70-300G lens which is quite enticing to me.

But the only thing that kind of stops me is the issue of the camera being repaired for BGLOD. Think I'm being paranoid?

I don't know about paranoid, maybe cautious. But I think it would be fine. I loved my D70s and there is not much of a difference between them. I sold my D70s to buy a D80. I don't think you can go wrong with either, but the extra lens would push me toward the D70.

I think the D70 is the better package also. In addition, I would be more worried about buying a D70 that hasn't had it's BGLOD fixed. Because then, it's like a ticking time bomb.

But for US$650, you may look for a new D40 just for peace of mind. Buying used gears is nice, but it is rolling the dice, though the odds are in your favor.

Even better, just by a new D-50 (they are now at a great price) and a Mack 5 year guarantee, and you will have some extra money to spend on a good budget lens like the Nikkor 55-200mm, as well as peace of mind, and a real feeling of security.

Thanks all for your advice.

The D40 is small for my hands. I kind of feel uncomfortable. It is one of the major reasons why I din't go for Canon.

So if the BGLOD is fixed, then the chances of it happening again are less? :?
