I hate to be a bearer of bad news. But, Nikon won't service it out of warranty either.

Nikon USA will not service a camera that was not intended in the U.S., even if you are willing to pay them for the service.

Other Nikon distributors (for example, Nikon Canada) have the same policy. Nikon Canada will not service a camera not intended for sale in Canada and purchased from an Authorized Nikon Canada Dealer, even if you are willing to pay them for the service.

If it breaks, they won't fix it, period.

P.S.

I see that you're in NJ. The NJ Attorney Generals Office has already filed a lawsuit against these guys. So, you may want to let them know about your dealings with them.

I had a similar problem downloading a Nikon D70 firmware upgrade. I bought my camera while in Hong Kong but live in the UK. I was able to register and download software from this site http://nikonasia-en.custhelp.com:80/...er/std_alp.php

Jim,

Thanks for the info/link. I will be advising the Consumer Complaint Division about this transaction. I doubt that I'll get anything done for me personally, but if I can add fuel to the fire for the lawsuit, I'll get some satisfaction.

I saw your post about buying recently, has it been more than the number of days for a possible return? If you used a credit card, maybe you should talk to your credit card company about your options.

I had used the camera about 10 days before I found out about the 'grey market' issue, so I don't think I can return it 'as new' and not get hit with substantial restocking fees. But I will contact my credit card company to discuss my options with them. Thanks for that suggestion.
