Im an old fan of TRI-X and PLus-X Black & White film and I would like to start shooting alot of B&W with my Nikon D40. Is there much of a difference in shooting all photos in the B&W mode on the D40, or should i shoot in color and convert them in PSPXI. Can you point to any articles discussing digital B&W photography?

Thank you!

I'd always shoot colour and convert to B&W in post processing.

If you watch the tutorial here http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.htmlyou'll see the options that shooting colour gives you when converting later. Also you also have the colour image if you decide you want to keep it in colour.
