These were taken with a D50 ( D40 is better ) and a Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR

First, great pics Guillermo, como siempre.

Why buy a D80 over a D40? There are some reasons.
  • more resolution for cropping[/*]
  • better high ISO performance - looks more like grain, less chroma noise[/*]
  • use of wireless flash system, without buying an SB800 - not important for everyone[/*]
  • larger, brighter viewfinder with more shooting info - ergonomics and convenience[/*]
  • AF with screwdrive lenses - there are some good ones out there[/*]
  • more AF points - depends on how you work, some people only need one point[/*]
  • ISO 100 - if you need squeaky clean images or shoot f/wide open in sunshine.[/*]
  • a physically more substantial camera - better to hold, IMHO, than D40[/*]
Those are the major points that I came up with when making the same decision. I went with the D80. Before I did, I spent two weeks with a borrowed D40. It was indeed a charming little camera capable of great images. If the points above and thos that I didn't think of don't add up to the price difference, get the D40 and never look back. Either way, you're getting a Nikon!
