Hi Guys,

I'm planning to upgrade from the D50 to the D300. I know the EN-EL3e battery which ships with the D300 is backward compatible with earlier models but can the D50 EN-EL3 be used in the D300.

I've got a few batteries for my D50 so it would be great if I could use them in the D300.

Thanks for the help guys!

Nope. The EN-EL3e can work in the older bodies, but not the other way around. From what I understand the EN-EL3 only has two contacts while the EN-EL3e has three.

BTW Did you know that there is a recall on certain EN-EL3 battery packs and that Nikon will replace them for free with the newer EN-EL3e?http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin...mp;p_topview=1

The new EN-EL3e has an extra contact which is used by the newer cameras to monitor battery capacity.
