Default Problem with D100 and AF 20mm/2.8

I have had a D1 for about 3 1/2 years that works fine with this lens, but I can't get it to work on the D100. It is not a D lens, but it does have CPU contacts.

It always shows 'fee' on the display, it will not focus or allow the shutter to fire (same thing in every mode, M, C, or S.)

For comparison I have a 60mm/2.8 Micro AF that works fine...also not a D lens.

Any ideas?

Not sure if this helps but, does the lens you have have an ability to set the Aperture to it's minimum setting and then lock it? That may solve the issue.
