Default New to Nikon

Hi
Iím new to the world of Nikon digital cameras when I say new, I was thinking of buying a D100, then someone said that I should join a forum and fined out more, before I do so here I am. Has anyone had any problems with the performance of they Nikon D100, or can think of a better choice of camera within the D100 price range.

I'm very happy with my D100 and would recommend it. The only issue that some people find is under exposure (see other postings) but within limits that can be a blessing.

I ended up going for the D100 because -

1) Consistently good reviews of image quality.
2) Examples of peoples work on this site.
3) I already had exposure to the Nikon menu system (via my CP4500). The duplication of controls via menus and shortcuts has been a criticism of the D100 but its not that bad.
4) A dealer had one I could try in the shop.

None the less have a look at the Cannon EOS 10D as well (nice camera and some very good users) !

I've had my D100 since September 03, and love it!!! I haven't had a problem with the camera, only operator error .
The reason I went with the D100 is that I already had Nikon lenses and my Nikon 6006 never gave me a day of trouble. Plus most dealers have them in stock.
You won't go wrong with the D100 should you decide to purchase one. Good Luck!!!

I''ve shot over 12000 shots sofar since the beginning of this year. No problems what so ever.

Just have in mind, that the CCD will be sensitive to dust, when you changes your lenses. Most DLSRs have a dustproblem - sooner or later.
Feel free to take a look at my website and read some more of, what I like and dislike about this camera. Address below.

I had D100 since Oct 2002. It was great. I understand people say "under exposure". I think it use AUTO program mode. But for me. mostly I used Manual mode, no problem. some say focus slow... but not all lenses. I had two lenses (nikon 24-85G AFS and Nikon 12-24g AFS) both are fast focus with d100.

yes it lot pictures 1,000+ IF you buy extra for MB-D100 (for two batteries and other shutter button like D1H/1X. include voice record.

For dust on CCD. Well, not all. IF you want change lenses: before clean lenses and inside house or build or car (no air-wind or air condition blow) during change no problem. but not even IN or near smoking area. Just keep clean. IF you're outside with windy or windy with dirt from beach or desert even africa then WORST.

So, I had both D100 and D1H since 1+ year old. I loved it. Before I used N4004, N6006 and N70. Now I hate film = you know film lab always happen accident daamge my negative! or sometime bad process.

Well, good luck for you decide.
