Well, in the next few months the largest industry trade show will happen (PMA) and that is when they'd most likely show it off.

On the other hand, the largest rumor mill out there are the forums at dpreview.com. I just looked and there is absolutely nothing about a new digital from nikon. The hottest topic is results from the D2h (they look great.)

So I'd still classify this as a very weak rumor until I see more evidence to the contrary.

Where did you hear 6MP? All the stuff I read said:

Detailed specifications about the sensor resolution, frame rate, buffer and groundbreaking new features will be finalised and announced at a later date.

So I'd like to here where that number came from. Was is speculation or fact?

I guess a lot of people speculate it will basically use the same D100 sensor. But now that Nikon has developed their LBCAST sensor, why continue to pay royalties to Sony when they can make their own sensors for less? Time will tell, but I'll bet Nikon will stick to 6 megapixels for the D70.

Look this chinese forum:
http://www.beareyes.com/2/lib/200311/06/20031106206.htm

I don't read chinese but I can read 3008x2000, and this means 6 Mpx
