Default F100

I know its not a "D"SLR, but its an SLR

I am wanting to upgrade my old canon AL-1, to a little more modern film camera, and from what i have read, its is one of the best in its time, i would love any input from some of you more "knowledged" people on steves, and if it would be a good step for me to take?

Thanks,

Jeff

I have one, and I really like it. Relatively quick AF. However, I do find myself trying to chimp between shots (doh!) I haven't really used it much (just bought it about a month ago). F100s are screaming deals... I paid less than $250 for mine. F5s are battery eaters, and are still probably double (or more) the price of an F100, and F6s are still really spendy. I have relatively large hands (comes with being 6'6") and I like the handling and size of it. I wish I could find a battery grip for it.

I have one too, but never use it. They are dirt cheap for what you are getting, and built like tanks....it should last forever, unlike the digital bodies of today. F5's are also very good deals (they can be found for under $500), but their large size is a huge turnoff (which is why I'll never get a D3(s)), and they are battery hogs.

Personally, even though i own it, I doubt I'll ever seriously use it again, and it will likely just continue gathering dust. No sense selling it as it has virtually no trade in or sales value. My D300 outperforms it in every way, and my d5k is much lighter and easier to carry. I've got a bunch of film tucked away in a freezer and much of it has been there for 7 or eight years. I've shot maybe two rolls of film over the last 5 years and can't really think of a reason why I would need to except for nostalgia.

Buy lots of batteries. From what I understand, alkalines don't last long in this beast, so your better off buying lithiums.
