A 2 mp jump is not really substantial and with gains in sensor quality, you'll likely get better iso performance.

but allot of anti canon guys said something completely opposite when canon went to 15mp. So there is allot of contradicting info weather 12 was the idea mp count for photos. Some still swears by it, to me the jury is still out on that one. The high mp will off set the noise of the higher iso. Like the canon t1i to the t2i.

The exemor sensor is really nice. Just what to see if nikon AA filter will give it a bit better iso performance over the sony. Though I am not a fan of the Nex, taking some high iso shots with it show how good a sensor the exemor is.

That doesn't sound like the same sensor.

Yep... it's different. I'm seeiing some sites reporting it as the same sensor in the NEX-5, but the specs are not same, and Nikon may have decided to design their own sensor:

Thom Hogan has more on it in his latest D3100 updates:

From the Nikon press release:

Quote:
Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the Nikon D3100, an entry level Nikon DX-format digital-SLR camera. The camera is equipped with a new CMOS image sensor developed by Nikon ... [emphasis mine.]
