Default NEF RAW Codec

This is driving me crazy. Anyone know of a solution?

Recently upgraded to Windows 7 64bit. Unable to see NEF thumbnails in Windows Explorer - just the generic "NEF" filetype icon. Downloaded and installed Nikon's NEF RAW Codec which didn't resolve the problem. Went back and looked, and the Codec is designed for 32 bit per system requirements.

Also impacts other programs. Photoshop CS5, while it will open RAW files - you have to guess which file because there is no preview. All files show the NEF icon.

Anybody aware of a solution - other than looking at them in View or Capture just to get the file number to open them in Photoshop?

One of my Win7 64 machines shows the thumbnails but I believe the other does not so there is definitely a fix of some kind out there. I shoot RAW+Jpeg so it hasn't been a huge issue so far since the jpeg will be right next to the RAW.

Here's a third party solution that works well with 64 Bit Windows:

AFAIK, Nikon still does not offer codecs for 64 Bit versions of Windows.

Thanks, that helps.

While $15 isn't bad for the 3rd party software, would be nice if Nikon addressed the issue to resolve it for 64bit.

I always browse using adobe bridge which as far as I know comes with all versions of PS and bridge has no problems previewing NEF files and shows them as processed in ACR. It would be good if Explorer would preview the files though.
