I still recommend the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED http://en.nikon.ca/Nikon-Products/Pr....6G-IF-ED.html

According to the tests on SLRGear the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR seems to be the speed demon with competition from Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD SP AF. The site doesn't perform specific tests for noise however.

Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR Nikkor http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showp...uct/992/cat/13
Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkor http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showp...ate/1129420280
Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showp...ct/1410/cat/23
Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD SP AF http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showp...ct/1339/cat/23

There doesn't seem to be a Tamron 18-300mm at this time.

Thanks so much for this site..I went with the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD SP AF..I will see how it works..Can always return within 30 days and they are offering a $50 rebate..If its not what I want I can try the Nikon 70-300..Thanks for your insight and great information
