The Sony A77 and the A55 both have about the same SNR and Dynamic Range, which is to say, not as good as the Sony A580 or the Nikon D7000 (which uses the same Sony sensor found in the A580 and A55.) (Ref: http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cam.../(brand3)/Sony

I think I'd still wait to see if Nikon will use Sony's 24MP image sensor in an upcoming model.

... especially if resolution was a primary concern.
