Default Thoughts on the Nikon D70s

I regret selling my d50 and buying a d100. I thought it would be good because of more control as the d50 is a beginner/intermediate camera.

I am not satisfied with the d100, the quality it produces isn't great and it's just so big and bulky with the grip attached. I'm now considering a d70s, I'd like a d200 but I'm a student and it's just a little pricey for me as I also film skateboarding with a $1200 setup.

I'd just like to hear your thoughts on the d70s, one of my friends has it and absolutely loves it. Please don't say oh get the d90 or d5100 because at this point in time I can't afford those and if I were to spend $900 on a camera I'd consider a d300. Not interested in the d90.

Thanks.

The D70s is a capable camera but is quite long in the tooth now having come out in 2004 so make sure you are getting a good copy with no hidden flaws.
Here are the reviews from that era so you can compare features:

I once had a D50. Great camera, I took some killer pics with it. The D70 came along, and with it, the GBLOD, or green blinking light of death. The D70s had no such problem, to the best of my knowledge, and some people like Vaske Obsidian still use it and do wonderful things with it. Here is just one picture shot with the D70s. Check his profile for more. He is pretty good.

The Nikon D70/70s were great cameras when they were released. But, as has been mentioned, The D70 came out in 2003 which is a VERY LONG time ago, as far as electronics are concerned.

Just because the camera may be old doesn't suddenly make it a lousy camera. It's just that things start to break. The one thing I would concern myself with is the shutter actuations. Cameras that old will have a tendency to have high shutter counts. I would be concerned with a shutter count higher than 30,000. Based on statistical data on shutter failures, the average shutter life for Nikon D70 is 49,000.

Thanks everyone for your feedback!

The D70s that I'm looking at on craigslist says it's in mint condition with less than 100 shots taken on it. I'll have to check it out.
