I will be in the US in March and my aim was to buy the D100 there as it was much cheaper than Europe.

Is it worth still buying or is the D70 likely to be as good.

Or is it worth waiting for the D100 to be improved??

impossible questions i know

... Not so impossible. The D70 is still a press release and not availlable in store yet, ie the D100 may be your only choice in March! After all PMA is still weeks away...

The story is that the D70 is a better camera than the D100.
As there is a big difference in price I cannot see why the D100 is priced at around twice that of the D70.

Not neccessary better, not in the same class but it has new features and new built-in technology with lower price due to market competition. Eventually, the D100 will be replaced with newer model soon. At current MRSP, the D70 kit with the new DX zoom is $1,299, very attractive. However, when the camera hits the market, it will be adjusted accordingly at much lower price to compete with the Canon Digital Rebel kit.

Cheers

Though the D70 may shine above the D100 in some things, in other areas such as the plastic body compared to the alloy body of the D100, I would not count out the D100. Here are the differences.
