Default Red Tail Hawk

The weather here on Cape Cod has been cold and dreary to say the least. There
hasn't been much of anything interesting around to shoot.
But, the sun finally broke out yesterday, so I decided to go to a state trout hatchery located in Sandwich. It's a great place to get pictures of birds i.e. Osprey, Hawks, and Great Blue Heron.

Usually, the Osprey show up during the 3rd week of March. And, as if on que, when I arrived at the Hatchery, there was an Osprey perched in a Tree.
Unfortunately, he didn't cooperate much. But, I did have good luck with 3 Hawks that were very active. This is one of the better photos I got using
a Nikkor 300mm F4 lens + TC-14E teleconverter + D7000 camera:

This is a beautiful shot Zig, the exposure is perfect and very sharp.

Love the color of the tail painted with the sun.

Regards.

Thanks Marcelo,

Much appreciate your taking the the time to look and comment.

I've gotten so accustomed to taking the 70-300mm f2.8 whenever I shoot birds that I've overlooked just how good the 300mm AF-S f4 (Non-VR) is especially when coupled with the TC-14E telecon. This was taken with the aperture wide open at f5.6. Hand held at 1/1600sec.
