Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the information. How would I know if a camera had a low mileage count?
I am finding the D40 slow but since I have the kit lens that came with it which camera will they fit - I don't want to spend more money on it as yet. I tend to shoot anything depending on what I want for art, which is what I use the camera for really. Lots to learn which I am trying to do and have been spending a lot of time on that so far.

You can't.

Factory refurbished cameras generally have the shutter mechanisms replaced if they've received significant use. Thus, "refurbished" is better than "used".

The kit lens for your D40 will fit any and all Nikon APS-C dSLR bodies.

I will add that the newer version of Nikon's 18-55 is superior to the one you have, which is an important consideration for newer dSLRs with higher resolution image sensors.

Regarding second hand value of your d40.I was offered 100 for my d5100 which I bought new 3 years ago, against a d5500, which I declined.
So dont expect much.
A friend of mine has just bought a D2x plus two lenses a sb 600 flash gun and the charger as well plus two memory cards for 400. The D2x body only was over 3000 new and only has 7000 activations on the shutter.
Selling it on ebay would probably be your best bet.
Good luck

Wish I had been that lucky. I have never dealt with ebay and know nothing about it.
It will probably just sit and collect dust.

It,s a goog idea to open a pay pal account if you do decide to have a go with ebay because they have supported me when I got ripped off and got me a full refund. Also a lot of sellers only accept pay pal so they know they will get paid. You still have to be careful though.
