Default Viewfinder Data Question

D700 In the viewfinder to the far right, it reads ( 2.5)k. When I press the shutter half way, it changes to (r 13). The 2.5k indicates the approx. number of frames remaining on the memory card. Would someone please tell me the significates of the r13?
Thank You
Glynn

Before you depress the shutter button, the number indicates the number of images that can fit on the free space on your CompactFlash memory card; when you depress the shutter button, the number indicates the number of images that can fit in the camera's internal buffer. This number is useful when shooting in Continuous Mode.
