Default D70 + which Lenses

Hi
First of all let me introduce myself because this is my first posting in this Forum - though I am a long time reader of it
I am from Austria, and going to buy a D70 as soon as available.
I think i will get the 17-70mm kit. Addiionally I am thinking of buying either a Tamron oder a Sigma 70-300 Lens.
Which one should I prefer?
Then I need a good Macro Lens, that allows small distances - any suggestons?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

best regards Michael

You should also consider the Nikon 70-300mm ED version. It's a great lens for less money. The 17-70mm seems to be a good choice too.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have not looked at this lens yet - thought it would be more expensive.
Probably I will go with a 70-200 - yes there is the Nikon VR , but imho far to expensive - maybe this comes later

And what about a good macro lens?

best regards Michael

Michael,

The Nikon 28-105 has a good macro facility. It is a bit of an overlap with your proposed kit lens, but as you havn't bought yet you could check the prices.

I use the AF-Micro-Nikkor 200mm f4 ED as my "specialist" macro lens. It allows me decent close-ups of the more un-coperative butterflies that my 28-105 can't reach. It focuses down to 0.5 metres. If that's not close enough then the 85mm f2.8 D PC Micro may bear investigation.

Have a look as well at http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2_PC.html

Regards,
Graham.

The older Sigma 70-300, even the APO macro version, is not very good. If image quality is important, buy the Sigma 70-200 F2.8

What is your preferred focal range? If you like the normal range, the Nikon 60mm F2.8 is the best. If you like the 100mm range, try Tamron 90mmSP F2.8. If you need longer working distance, Nikon's 200mm F4 is the best.

I think I will give the 70-300 APO II a chance, I am just curios how it performs. If it`s not what I expected, I still can sell it and buy another lens. The 70-200 f 2.8 Sigma is the next on my shortlist.
The 450mm equivalent focal length is apealing and I just want to try. Sample photos to come

best regards Michael
