Default Sigma 170-300mm and the D100

Has anyone used the 170 - 300mm Sigma lens with the D100. Sigma say no problems of course but every now and again I come across a post somewhere from somebody with a compatability problem with a Sigma lens. I haven't found any one yet with specific experience of this particular lens though.

thanks
neil

Go with the original Nikon lenses if you want to avoid most of the problems when using non-original maker lenses. I always have some problems with these kind of lenses, especially the Sigma lenses, most of the times ia the AF issue when the AF operation is kinda slow and hunt for the subject, also, you will get better quality pix with Nikon lenses most of the times...

Just the issue of cost I think. I may accept some compromises for a lens at a fraction of the price.

Yes, but then remember you paid for what you get...the are number of excellent nikon zooms lenses with F stop between 3.5 and 4.5 at very reasonable prices, just don't shoot for the F2.8 when your budget is not allow. Another word, save your money to get the right stuffs. Cheers

Default Sigma Lenses

Give the Sigma a test and compare. I did! I tested my 24>120 & 75>300 Nikors against the 28>300 Sigma and the Sigma was sharper(edge acutance)contrast was slightly better and color was the same as the Nikors. And it cost a lot less$$ But, the Sigma is a much newer design and production than either of my Nikors. Nikon is dragging their feet in keeping up with the competition out there.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I meant the 170-500 lens. I might see if I can try one.
