Default Flash card reader for newbie

Hello, I am using a Nikon D100 and I wanted advice on a fast flash card reader. I'm using a Sony laptop, running Windows XP, regular USB ports. Also, about how many photos shot in RAW will fit on a 512 card? Thanks, SuzyQ :?

As far as a card reader.. I use a lexar compact card reader ..single slot ,USB about $15 this reader is simple and has worked flawlessly for me for a long time... on your 512 mb card in raw about 52..

I use two Lexar readers, one of them a USB2 reader and the other a firewire. The USB2 reader is backwards compatible with USB so I can use it anywhere there's a USB port. You may also think about a PCMCIA adapter like Delkin's... forgot the model now. It's supposed to have a 32-bit interface and be much faster than a regular CF-PCMCIA converter.

I've used a Transcend PCMCIA CF adapter with good result. Transfers were acceptable speed.
