Default D1x flash photography

I just bought a Nikon D1x together with a flash SB28DX. Using for a long time f100/SB28 i am suprised that the flash photography (specially fill-in flash) works so much worse than im used to with the analog combination.
Can anyone tell me if i do something wrong or is there a way to let it work like my F100/SB28??

thanks in advance

I didn't tell what are the results of your pictures, the D1X and the SB28DX should work the same way the F100 and the SB28. What mode did you shoot on the D1X? P, S, A and d you set the flash as the matrix muthe ltisensor TTL?, you should get a better result than with the F100 since the D1x does have a better meter. Please describe your procedures and results, then we can go from there...cheers
