Can someone suggest a good quality tripod and ball head for the D70? My "biggest" lens is the Tamron 28-300 (little over 2 lbs. => 1015 g. for both D70 and Tamron lens).

I have a Bogen/Manfrotto 3021 Pro tripod which will handle up to 13.3 pounds, and a 3047 head which itself weighs 4.25 pounds but will handle 16.5 pounds the setup is pretty sturdy and precise, but it's a bit too slow for me. In my work I don't use tripods too much, prefering a monopod for its support/versatility ratio compared to tripods. In case you're interested in a monopod that will handle most photo equipment, I highly recommend the Gitzo 1588 mk.2 - weighs ~2 pounds but can support up to 26.5 pounds. It looks much heavier than it actually is

Duh, you said ballhead... the 3047 is not a ball head :? I don't own one, but wish I had a Bogen/Manfrotto 322RC2. Seems fast enough for me and it's reasonably priced
