Does anyone know if it is possible to take a black & white photo with a D70, or convert to b/w using Capture?

You have to convert in Capture or Photoshop (or whichever editor you use). One thing I have leared in Photoshop is to not change it to grayscale, but to desaturate the color. Changing to grayscale changesthe colorspace from RGB and some camera shops that also have a lab cannor process any images outside of the RGB colorspace

if you have photoshop it is best to convert with "calculations" and have it open the changed image as a new image, it gives you more flexibility...something you'll have to play with though...

You can't take a BW shot direcly with D70. Use Nikon capture (not PS!) to convert and process your image. Save as 16bit TIFF. Open PS and DON'T convert to grayscale. A grayscale photo has very few tone compared to i.e. a desaturation of a 16-bit TIFF image. When you're done save in the format you like. If you go to my website www.hertz-ladiges.com OR the direct link http://www.hertz-ladiges.com/modules...ge&pid=152 you will find a tutorial of 5 different ways to convert to BW. Way 5 of 5 is no less than superb!
