how do I take B&W pictures with nikon D70?

As far as I know, there is no way to directly take a BW picture on either a D70 or D100. You have to take a color picture and load it into either PS or PSP and convert.

Actually I don't think that there is any existing digital camera that takes "black and white" images.

I can set my D1x to take such images, but actually they are color - The camera does the conversion internally.

You are actually better off using photoshop or similar programs to do this - There are MANY options. You can even use the individaual channels, and disregard the worst one to make this conversion - There are other tricks...
