Well I'm looking for another lens to compliment the 18/70 lens that I got with the D70 package. I want some a zoom as well as a macro lens but this sigma is somehow supposed to macro as well, how?

I've found this lens for $169at a reputable store. Thanks in advance for the help. BTW I've read a lot of great informative post, first time posting. This site rocks!!!

If I read the Sigma website lens chart correctly, that lens does not have macro capability.

I have the Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 Zoom Macro Super II Autofocus. Its a great lens for the money. (IMO) You can check out its rating here. Fourth from the top under Tele zooms - 300/320mm.

You can also take a look at it here.

This way there is not to much overlap in the two lenses and you get more distance as a bonus. Also the same f4-5.6 you were looking for. I don't know anything about the 55-200.
Just a little food for thought.

If your looking to shoot sports, fast action or low light stuff you have to spend a lot more for an f2.8 tele zoom and I think the sigma starts around $800.00.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info, well I guess the navy exchange website had wrong information in regards to the lens.

I guess i was trying to kill to two birds with one stone wanting long zoom while still have having some macro capabilities.

You still can have it both ways. The 70-300 I mentioned above is also a Macro lens.
