From people that have purchased the D70 lens kit, are you happy with the lens? I want a lens that will provide great wide-angle coverage of indoor people pics with accurate skin tones.

First I have to say that I have the D70 kit with 28-80 /f3.3-5.6

I am more than happy with it.
It is not as wide as the 18-70 but it's okay for landscape.

Focusing works pretty fast with the 28-80. So I guess it will even be better with the 18-70.

The overall performance is good for the price. I got the kit with 28-80 for 899€ which I think is a very good price. And I am very satisfied, although I'm just experimenting with sigma 70-300 apo macro super II. But that's a completely different zoom range anyway.

However, I'd recommend to get the D70 with kit lense, if this is the question you were leading to.

The 18-70 is a very very good lens - one review says" It is the best choice wide to tele zoom lens for every Nikon digital SLR. This is a serious lens, not a "kit lens" or a cheap replacement for a lens cap sold as part of a kit as with most other cameras. The fast f/3.5 - 4.5 speed should be your clue; the cheapies are all f/3.5 - 5.6."

It was made FOR the D70 and I love it as my everyday lens. Get it because at 18mm you won't find a better wide angel under . . . . A LOT of money .
