Another Newbie. Happy to find you all. I enjoy reading the posts. I received a D70 with the 18-70mm kit lense for Christmas. It takes amazing clear pictures. I am enjoying all the features. Now I am interested in macro photography specifically I want to take pictures of flowers close-up. After numerous hours of reading it appears that the 105mm f/2.8D AF Mircro-Nikkor lense is what I am looking for. Does anyone havecomments on this lense or suggestions? Additionally, I notice the IMP (import) lenses are less expensive. Why? other than the warranty service. Any comment on purchasing Import lenses off the web?

Thank you for your responses.

Not an answer but make sure you check out the Sigma 100mm Macro for $100. It's outstanding for one hundred bucks - BUT Nikkor makes the best lens's. .

Grinder,

The only sigma lens that i know of like that is the 105 F2.8 EX macro, and its about $350. Which lens are you referring to and who has it at that price?

I do know that the sigma 105 2.8 ex is a very good lens rivalling even the nikkor lens, for a much better price. I dont think you can go wrong with either one.
