Does anyone know if the D70 can rotate portraits ON THE CARD (not just the display) so I do not have to rotate them at post production?

I think Nikon Capture has something you can do. But you can't rotate them in the memory card for post production.

I don't understand this question. By default the camera has Image Rotation auto set in the set up menu. With this on the pictures are recorded in the crrect format and displayed in either portrait or landscape in Photoshop, Picture Project and Nikon View. As far as I can tell the rotation on the viewfinder is set by Rotate Tall in the custom settings and only works if Image Rotation Auto is already set.

How do you create a file that is rotated on the viewfinder and not automatically rotated when processing?

I figured it out. Nikon "tags" the image as rotated but only certain software can read it as "rotated" but it still is not "physically" rotated. In PhotoShop CS, via the File Browser, you have the option to physically rotate the ones that have been "tagged" as rotated. XP does not read these images as rotated until they are physically rotated.
