Well used you may find something close to the price range if your lucky.

When you stepped into the DSLR arena your going to find that there is no such thing as good cheep fast glass, you will pay for quality fast glass.

Your only other options are to look into brands like Sigma, Tokina or Tamron but a 2.8 will still be closer to the $250 - $300 range.

I did a little looking and at B&H you can get a Nikon AF 85mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens for 344 after rebate or settle for a Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D Autofocus Lens $229.95 imported model.

Well all I say is good luck and hope what ever you decide on works out for you.

Just keep in mind that low lightis digital worst enemy and will produce noise so getting all the light you can is a major key.

Chun, how close will you be?

I cropped this from a full stage shot taken from the balcony of a Chicago Theater.
