I'm sorry to say, but the only "authorized" Nikon repair facility is in the city of São Paulo, a shop called T.Tanaka:

http://www.ttanaka.com.br/assitencia_tecnica.asp

I've heard a lot of nightmare stories about their repair bills being absurd and the LONG turnaround time of those repairs. And their excuse for not offering service outside of São Paulo is just plain lame. There must be other repair places, I'm just not familiar with them. I'm also sorry to say that in Brazil, anything electronic that's foreign is expensive to buy, expensive to repair, and Brazilian customs might even charge you import tax on your own stuff - to me that's pure BS. Good luck though.

Thanks for the heads up.
However I found a Yashica place in Salvador which fixed the machine in a day for$200.00...the trouble was the combination of salty air and sand...(it was really windy most of the time on the beach) had somehow affected the mechanism in the camera. How can I clean it? don't have to spend $200 every time this happens.
