I have my D2x and I've been a bit disappointed in the noise issue. The camera appears as noisy in ISO's above 400 as the D1x...

At any rate, I've been using CS2 with it's NEF convertor.

Today I down loaded the DNG convertor and made the experiment to convert my NEF to DNG and then process them...

Well the images are BETTER when processed from DNG and LESS noisy!

This leads me to conclude that we shall have to wait till adobe releases the next version of their convertor in order to get optimum results.

The images are still a bit noisy, but better than the D1x. I shoot in ISO 500. And I recomend, that at least for now, people convert to DNG before processing their images.

I would make sure to keep your original .NEF files. From what I'm reading from D2x owners, the DNG converter will not convert the "as shot" WB information from the D2x .nef files (if this is something you care about).

Hi Jim

I don't understand this. Each image I shot has a different WB. I have my defaults set to "as shot" and indeed, that's what I'm getting...

And of course, they are still RAW data files, I can and do adjust the WB the way I want in anyway...

It's true that I have the WB in my camera set on Auto. Is this why I'm geting these results?

I responded to your other thread first. You're seeing the results of Adobe's Auto White Balance in ACR (which is how they implemented the D2x, because of the WB encryption issue preventing them from using the White Balance the camera selected).

See my response in the other thread for details (and why it matters to some users, and not to others):
