I am wanting to get a DSLR but I am torn between the D50 and the D70. I need to some help on the decision. Can you all be of any assistance in this matter?

Thanks

It all depends on what you will be using it for. I'd say image quality will be the same or so close as to be impossible to see the differences. The D50 is an attractive buy, uses the SD cards, loses a bit of flash functionality compared to the D70s. As a sterter DSLR the D50 has to be a great buy.

Dustin, since this model is not shipping yet, you can only go by specifications. My guess is that it will be a pretty decent camera.

It does appear to have an issue that may be a potential problem to some users, limiting their choices in third party tools for converting .nef (RAW)files, if they want the software to support the way they set a camera's white balance in the field when shooting in RAW.

It appears Nikon is planning to encrypt the metadata related to the "as shot" White Balance in this model's .nef (RAW) files, basedon user reports of correspondence with Nikon Distributors.

Here is another recent thread discussingthe D70s and D50 that includes this issue as well as some of the other major differences:
