Hello All,

I have been using a Nikon D50 from the last 3 months and there are a lot of questions that are popping in my mind. Firstly how do i do Black and White Photography with the D50. I had a Fuji S5500 previously where there was an option for Black and White but since there is nothing ona D50 like that how does one take Black and White pictures. There may be a way??????.

The best is to convert the image to black and white in your image editing software. 99% of images need some form of editing anyway...this way you have both a color and B&W version.

So am I hearing that it can't be done through the camera configuration itself?

Is there a way to adjust the color to such a level on the camera that you can take the B/W photographs without having to tweak the image in the software?

Thx.

There is no way to set the camera to take a black and white pic. I think it is better to convert using software anyway. You can't always be sure an image will work in B&W...that way you have a color B&W version. It is a simple adjustment, especially if you have a plug in or filter that will do it for you. As I said before, nearly every image needs some adjustment anyway.

I'm not sure about Picture Prohect but I downloaded the free and to my mind superior Nikon View and that has a simple convert to B&W or Sepia function.

Personally I use PhotoShop and the hue saturation method shown on the video here http://av.adobe.com/russellbrown/ColortoBW.mov

This gives much more control over the final image than in camera conversion or a simple convert to B&W

Hi guys,
I have a Nikon D50 which i bought some 3 weeks ago and have already shot a few extremely beautiful photographs. But one thing that is troubling me is to shoot a black and White Picture. Is there no other way of doing this through a setting in the camera?

I would be highly grateful if anyone of you could help me in this regard.

Thanks

There is no way of doing this through a setting on the camera but it's very easy to do on the computer afterwards.

Yeah i have been using picaasaa to download pictures on to the PC and it is quite easy doing the same on it. But i just wanted to know whether there is anything.

Kindly keep me informed about any new photographical technique.

Thanks a lot.

I too am interested in B&W pictures. I believe that in almost all cases that even if your camera has a B&W mode, it is better to take your pictures in full color mode, and then convert them to what you want in software. In fact, using Photoshop Elements, there is a way (found it on the web and will reference the link if you want [andI can find it....]) to adjust your photographs as though you were using various B&W filters. You can control the result as though you selected your filters after the fact. It is far better than an automatic conversion. If you let the camera convert to B&W, you will always be throwing away information...
