I plan on getting a D50.

My question is... I have a Canon FTb with a Tamron 300 2.8 on it.

Could I get the Nikon mount for the Tamron and use it on the D50?

I know it will be manual focus and I would guess the meter wouldn't work. For my pictures I could set the f-stop and shutter speed, take a pic and adjust from there.

If you can get a Nikon F mount for your lens it will probably work. There are a few types of Nikon lenses that are not compatible specifically IS lenses. It's more difficult to be sure with a third party lens and adapter.

I agree.. As long as it's Nikon F then it'll fit the body. Manual everything though, as you acknowledge.
