What kept me from paying more for less is the better performance of the D50. In digital cameras, point and shoot or slr, always buy the latest model. Technology change rapidly. You get moreby buying the newest models. The Nikons to buy are D50 and D200.

actually i have found it to be a problem (not having a backlight on the lcd display), even taking pictures in moderate light... my solution is to just grab my mobile phone and shine it over the display

still, id rather it was backlit, or used the lcd display like the new e-330 and pany dslr

ok, but the main display is backlit, isn't it?

I have owned an FZ-20 for two years and the lens is spectacular, however there is so much noise above ISO 100 that it a real problem. I too am looking at a D70 + a couple or one lens.

The FZ5 is still a cracking camera - don't get me wrong. I wouldn't say a bad word about it in good daylight.

It's not an SLR though.

indeed, the fz series along with its latest addition, the fz30, are spectacular cameras but, unfortunately (as all the point & shoot),only deliver the goods in good light conditions. the fz30 isn'tdifferent. it is simply awful in low lightwithout a tripod or long exposures.as mlhm5 said, above iso100, the images are plain horrible and no matter the post processing (noiseninja or neatimage) it won't get any more better.

Yes, the display will show -E- if no memory card is in the camera whether the camera is on or off (the camera is never really "off", it's just in standby mode, really).

TD-

You are so correct, the Nikkor 50mm F 1.8 is a jewel.
