Is there any way to find out the TOTAL number of actuations already taken? (btw i have a D70)

If you want to check how many actuations your shuteer / camera has taken, you would need to download some EXIF reading software from opanda.com...

The download takes a few seconds and you simply drag the last picture taken from your camera into the Opanda window and you will find the details near the lower half of the LONG LIST... The info is about 80% of the way down the page...

Found a database that shows real world reports of shutter life for various makes/models.
http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/
Based on what people who go to the site report.

Take a look...

D50 - Average number of actuations after which shutter died: 41,154.3
D70 - Average number of actuations after which shutter died: 52,111.5
D70s - Average number of actuations after which shutter died: 48,941.0
