Forgive me if it isn't permissible to request such information (and delete post), but I wanted to know who might have the best price on the Nikon D-50 camera kit.

Well, some searching revealed that the cheapest place (that I found, that is), for the D50, was at Express cameras. It is now just a matter of trying to make a determination as to which 'kit' I want to get, as they have a few different lenses which are offered in their kits.

Caveat Emptor.

Some advise. If a price looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Also, if you buy a gray market camera (one intended for sale in another country), Nikon USA will refuse to service it, even if you are willing to pay them for the service.

Some of the good looking deals around are on gray market cameras with store warranties that may not be worth the paper they're written on.

Checkout Cameta on eBay. They have LOTS of packages for the D50 at great price. Some have brand new lens, others are refurbished, some are with Nikons, others with Sigma or Tamron. Take your time and research them. They are not trying to conrfuse, they just segment the market that way.

The ones with brand new Nikon lens will come with 5 Year USA warranty.

I ended up getting the D50 with 18-55 and 70-300G Nikon lens and a Nikon bag for $700 (INCLUDING the $20 shipping and handling).

Good Luck!

Here's the link the the D50 stuff:

Yeah, I did kind of question it a little bit. I mean.....a Nikon D50 kit for $479.99? That seemed almost criminal. My lust for that camera pulled me away from my sensibilities, and I came very close to diving into the water. I am SOOOOOO glad, though, that I posted my intention before making this (what I know, now, to be) big mistake. From this point on I will be reluctant to purchase any type of electronic gear online, and will (almost without question) seek for what I need in local outlets.

Though I don't really care much for Circuit city, they have about the best local price for the D50 - 18/55mm camera kit ($650.00). I don't know for how long that price is for, and will try to see what I can do about getting it before the price escalates.

Thanks again - and BLESSINGS.

Nathan:

You can find it for less (but, not *that* much less). ;-)

Just make sure you're dealing with a reputable vendor. CametaAuctions (mentioned by rey is reputable).

I'd strongly advise avoiding any Brooklyn based vendors. Most of them are scammers (for some reason, they seem to be able to get away with it in Brooklyn).

Dell has a good price on the kits right now (and they sometimes have discount coupons available via places like http://www.techbargains.com ).

If you don't mind going factory reconditioned and buying your lenses separately, http://www.beachcamera.com has Nikon reconditioned D50s with a 90 day manufacturer's warranty for $399 right now.

In NY, I'd check out 17th Street Photo and B&H (note that they have a lower price than shown in the price search engines when you add it to your cart):
