When I download the pictures to the computer, I notice an occassional picture is out of order. I had a Minolta that would put a new picture back to the location of a deleted picture. There was a menu setting to change this in the Minolta. I can not find it in the Nikon D50.

Are you sure they are numerically out of order? Try re-sorting the directory.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean... but i noticed that on mine, not just the numbers are out of order, but the order of how I shot the pictures.

for example, I took about 200 pictures yesteray.

I took about 20 in the yard (flowers, etc.)

then my neice came over and I took shots of her (first inside, then outside)

then there was a church function last night and I took a lot there.

When I downloaded them, the first shots showing up on the computer were maybe 8 shots of my neice (outiside) then the flower shots, then more shots of my neice (outside) and then some of her inside. the church pictures i have not idea about being in order or not because i took so many.

the number sequence is fine..it's just not the way I shot them.

i've never seen this on any of the cameras I've previously owned. not a big deal, but just strange.

Hi, everyone. Just found this site and registered. I am relatively new to digital slr and have recently purchased a Nikon D50 which I am very pleased with.

I went on holiday and took 640 shots and also noticed that they were clearly out of order. They were numbered sequentially but not in the order I took them.

The manual doesn't give any indication as to why?

I'm glad you responded to this thread. I guess I'm not the only one! I also looked for an "answer" to why this happens, but couldn't find one.

This sounds really odd.

So basically you're both saying that when you shoot a picture and say it was given the filename: DSC_0250.JPG, and then shoot again, the next one is NOT given the name DSC_0251.JPG? Is the time stamp in the right order, or is it given a random time stamp as well? What's the firmware version on your camera?

No, mine are in sequential order...I guess. I don't watch the numbers as I'm taking the pictures. When on the computer, they are in sequential order.

BUT...

They are NOT in the order in which I took them. i.e., 10 shots of trees, 10 shots of flowers, 5 shots of kids,7 shots of dogs. When I upload, they are in a different order - 5 shots of trees, 5 shots of kids, other 5 shots of trees, kids, dogs, etc.

Like I said before, not really a problem. Just weird!

Mare,

Your description is just what is happening to me. It is a problem for me when I am documenting a trip. I want everything in order. It is annoyig to have them out of order.

Is there a fix for this?

Where do I get the firware number?
