I've had the D70 for over a year and a half now, and after a fairly steep learning curve to get good pictures, have truly grown to love it. Here is my problem - while taking pictures the other day, I noticed the shutter release button didn't feel right, not the same action, but the camera continued to work. Depress the shutter half way and the camera would focus, depress it the remainder and the picture was taken. 10 minutes later the camera stopped auto focusing though the shutter would still fire. Any one else ever have or heard of this problem? The lens and the camera are set to AF. Any help would be appreciated.

Try using Nikon Capture Control to take the pic from your PC. That should tell you if its the button or camera. I downloaded a trail version from Nikon and played with it when I first got the camera and it would take pictures from the PC using the USB cable. You have to change the communications protocol in the camera from mass storage device though. Good luck.
