I am planning on purchasing a DSLR in the next couple of days, I have found a local seller selling a gently used D70 that was purchased about a year ago and the owner recently upgraded to a D200. He's selling it for $750 with everything that came in the kit. If I buy a new D50 from a local B&M it will be about the same price after tax. I've never owned a SLR camera of any type but want to have more control over my camera than I do with my Olympus C-730UZ. What would you all reccommend to a SLR newbie? With a new D50 I get obviously everything new with a warranty but a slightly lesser camera. Please help me decide.

I would get the D50. If you're in the US, you might be able to get it for cheaper online. Note that the D70 has some problems that were fixed with D70s, so if this is the D70, you might see this problem. Basically the camera dies and you have to send it in for repair. Nikon USA fixes it for free, other countries may vary.

I ended up with a D50 kitthat I got at Circuit City for $664+tax. I know I could have got it cheaper online but I wanted to get it before the weekend because we had planned a trip to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago that fell throrugh because of asick kid. I couldn't be happier though, I've taken about 500 photos that I've kept and am now looking at purchasing a Sigma 18-200 lens for it.
