hello there.

thanks to this forum and particularly to mtclimber, I bought a nikon d50... and I couldn't have been more pleased. all the advantages you guys mentioned of having a dslr (I considered a s9000) and the d50 in particular (I considered the oly e500) were valuable indeed. I really don't think how this camera could be better... the few extras in the d70s won't be missed. and the picture quality... any p&s digicam seems like a toy to me now

anyway here are a few samples with just basic photoshop adjustments except where noted.

^ the kit 18-55mm lens. seems like a pretty decent piece of glass to me, specially at smaller appertures.

^ using a tamron 70-300mm D I had. I didn't do many enlargements with film, but now with digital I can see this is a pretty good lens as well. the 1.4 converter, though, is nearly useless... blowing it up on photoshop seems better than using the converter, due to softness and purple fringing. (I didn't use the tc on any of these shots)

^ that's a 100% crop using the 70-300 (at eq. 450mm). slight smart sharpen on photoshop cs2. that's at 400 iso... virtually no noise, heh? I had this shot at 630mm eq. (using the 1.4 converter) but this one looks much better.

^ a self portrait using my sister's eye as a mirror . about 50% resize.
