Can anyone tell me where I can get more specific details on what is happening in each of the preset program modes? Seems like knowing this would help me decide if any of them is appropriate for the shot I intend to take.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Didn't see in manual or on Nikon site or FAQ's, and can't tell whether the Magic Lantern or other D50 books out there have any detail. Anyone know of one?

In each of the scene modes, Nikon chooses settings it thinks are ideal for that shot. Unfortunately, Nikon does not indicate how it determines the optimal settings.

The modes are pretty self explanatory. The name of the modes, (sports, landscape, child etc) pretty much describe what to use them for.

the manual says most, if not all, of what I would like to know about each mode in particular. they mostly vary apertures for the desired effect (like preferrably between f/8 and f/16 for landscapes for sharpness and the biggest aperture available for close up shots fot shallow dof, and so forth), and also colours (like child mode, for boosting warm skin tones). the internal maths of the camera aren't revealed, and imho aren't of great importance for us photographers.

I know I didn't help a lot, but my bottom line is... what I personally need to know is in there in the manual.

cheers!
