As an introduction to DSLR i have looked at the d70s. I have been given the opportunity to get a d200 but dont know if this would be too advanced for me at this time. Any suggestions please.

If you can get the D200, get it. If you can get a D70s with better lenses instead, then do that... or get the D50 and get even more better lenses. :-)

Try and see if you can test a D80, it just came out. But I have to say I love my D200

Having just upgraded from the D70 to the D200 I would have to say go the route if you can afford it. That said, I'm keeping my D70 with the 18-70 on it as a landscape camera and my D200 will live it's days with the 80-400VR. Having two bodies is great, I won't be swapping lenses continuously with it's associated problems.

I really like my D70, my reason for upgrading is to get a second body and one that has 10MP coupled with my telephoto gives me an advantage for the type of shooting I do. The D200 is a more rugged camera as well, sealed against moisture and dust so is great when I go banging about in the bush.
